2009 Hawaiian TIDE Charts

THESE TIDE CHARTS predict the tide times and heights for Hawaii and will apply with no adjustment to the immediate Hawaii area. Time is depicted across the calendar dates as vertical lines one hour apart. Tide heights are shown with horizontal lines each representing a difference of one foot. Night and day are shown below the curve as dark blue and light blue colors. The moon in the sky, either day or night, is depicted with a yellow color above the curve. While this data is in the public domain, our method of expressing this data is copyrighted.

Tide Corrections
The tides are a fluctuation in the sea level caused by the gravitational pull of the sun and the moon. They travel like waves through the ocean. For this reason the times and heights of tides must be corrected for the various harbors in the Hawaiian Islands. Our charts and times are based on the high and low tides at Honolulu Harbor, Oahu. To find the correct times and heights for an area other than Honolulu you must find the harbor nearest to it on the map above. Then find that harbor on the Tide Correction Chart.
Time corrections on the chart are given in hours and minutes. A plus (+) sign means the tide will occur later than in Honolulu. Add this number to Honolulu time. A minus (-) sign indicates a tide will occur earlier than in Honolulu. Subtract the number from Honolulu time.
Tide heights and corrections are given in feet and tenths of feet. A plus (+) sign indicates the tide will be higher than in Honolulu. Add the number to the Honolulu tide height. A minus (-) sign indicates a tide will be lower than in Honolulu. Subtract the number from the height given for Honolulu. An asterisk (*) indicates that the tide height must be found by multiplying the Honolulu tide height by the number given in the table.

Sunrise and Sunset Corrections
Times for sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset are based on sea level at Honolulu Harbor. For every 60 miles west of Honolulu add 4 minutes to the time given, for every 60 miles east of Honolulu subtract 4 minutes from the time given. For example, the sun rises and sets 12 minutes earlier in Hilo, and the sun rises and sets 5 minutes later in Lihue.
